“When a horse greets you with a nicker and regards you with a large and liquid eye,
the question of where you want to be has been answered.”

The biggest plus about my program to many people is the small, private barn. There are no other horse owners or barn help bustling around. Except for me as the horse handler, you will have a private and confidential setting if that is a concern. Many people do not want anyone aware of their situation. My barn offers that opportunity.
Absolutely not! No prior knowledge of horses and/or horsemanship is necessary.
With little prior experience, many are fearful and timid, which presents an opportunity to help one overcome their initial fears. This is the first interaction that many people have with the animals in their equine experience. It can be extremely powerful to have to overcome this initial fear in order to begin an even more powerful relationship going forward with the animal. If you do have experience with horses, you already know the positive benefits from a session with a horse.
While great care is taken in the selection and training of my horses, there is an inherent risk associated with participating around horses. All participants, parents/guardians, and spectators will be required to sign a liability release acknowledging the inherent risk of equine activities.
Help Me Horses accepts cash, check, Venmo and PayPal. I do not bill insurance, but I can provide you with a receipt of payment for your insurance company or program to reimburse you directly.
That is entirely up to you. Most people feel the desire to see their furry friend sooner than later.
Dress for the weather. There will be dirt and fur, so recreation clothes are best. Closed toe shoes, sneakers or boots are necessary. A helmet is not necessary since you are not riding, but you can still wear it.
I gratefully accept many types of donations, including goods, services and financial support. Corporate, individual, or private donations go to assist our free services to veterans.
There is no riding, all work with horses is done on the ground. I believe that working with horses on the ground is not only safer for you, but also enables you to form a more authentic relationship with your horse. Although riding lessons are not part of this program, I can discuss riding options through Little Red Riding Barn programs.
Any horse can be a therapy horse, but you want a horse that shows calmness and kindness naturally. Both of the horses at Help Me Horses have those natural qualities. My training consists of working with the horse in specific ways to foster a highly developed sense of cooperation, patience and trust from grooming to groundwork. I am always present to assist with the horses.
“If your horse says “no”, you either asked the wrong question, or asked the question wrong.”
